Course Locations

By Pablo |

Woodlife Trails runs courses in a number of unique and beautiful locations, the like of which is mostly unavailable to other Wilderness and Bushcraft schools. We are extremely grateful to the landowners for giving us their permission to share their woodlands and forests.

We are based at Hatfield Forest, Essex. Hatfield is owned and managed by the National Trust. It is an ancient hunting forest mentioned in the Doomsday book. The Forest covers 1,049 acres of woodland, wood-pasture with ancient trees, lake and marsh. It is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a National Nature Reserve. It’s approximately 40 minutes north east of London by car, just off Junction 8 of theM11 motorway and Bishops Stortford. All our Countryside and Woodland Awareness Courses take place at Hatfield Forest – but it’s not guranteed that all courses will take place there. For some courses we elect not to run out of Hatfield.

Poor Park Woods, Essex is a small, privately owned ancient and secret woodland not far from Chelmsford, which hosts a large amount of wildlife. Previously a pheasant shoot, this woodland is now largely unmanaged adding to it’s mystery and intrigue. Once you adapt to the woodland, you should quickly figure out where the wildlife lay-up, potentially affording close-encounters you will never forget. Be aware! It’s too easy to spook the wildlife out of the woods. Talking of spooks, the woods also hold a grizzly secret!

Forest Row, East Sussex. We have access to woodland on the edge of Ashdown Forest. The Forest is at the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has national and international protection because of its wildlife. Nearly two thirds of its 6500 acres (2500 hectares) are heathland, amounting to 2.5% of the UK’s extent of this rare habitat.
