Staff Profile: Richard Harris

Born in the East End of London, Rich developed an interest in wildlife and the outdoors at an early age from his neighbour, who was a keen butterfly and moth expert in the post-war buddleia filled wasteland sites of Walthamstow and from his Grandparents in rural Norfolk, where he learn to shoot and fish and to forage in the hedgerows. Relocating to Hertfordshire in the early 70’s he spent every free hour exploring, camping out, fishing and airgunning.

He started his Bushcraft learning proper in 2004 and has had the privilege to learn from many great instructors and experts, including Pablo and JP.  He is a proud recipient of the Texa Ranger badge.  He joined the Woodlife Trails team in 2011 and after 3 years hard work became an instructor for us in December 2016.

Originally trained as a Professional Chef, he continues to enjoy all aspect of outdoor cooking and prep. His key interests are tracking, first aid and mentoring students. Rarely a ground dweller, you’ll find Rich hammocking in all weathers.
